2024 Ford Escape Hybrid AWD, Colors, Price – The Ford Escape Hybrid and the regular Escape (which we also examine) are among the market’s most popular sport utility vehicles. It provides what most buyers are looking for at the moment: a roomy cabin with a tall, crossover body. Two types of hybrid cars are available, both of which are powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 200 horsepower combined. Not only is the 0-60 time not particularly impressive, but that isn’t even the primary focus of this vehicle. Note that the PHEV is offered exclusively with front-wheel drive. Even though the Escape Hybrid has excellent fuel economy ratings, neither model is enjoyable to drive. The Toyota RAV4 Prime, a more expensive option, comfortably outperforms the Ford Escape. The Ford has many safety features and an easy-to-use touchscreen interface, but can it compete with the most thrilling SUVs if you don’t need a hybrid specifically? Atlas Blue Metallic, Flight Blue Metallic, and Iced Blue are some of the new exterior color options for the 2017 Ford Escape Hybrid. Ford has also updated several of its features. Titanium vehicles now come standard with a 10-way power driver’s seat, also included in the SEL Technology Package and available in the SE Convenience Package. Instead of being included in the Titanium Elite Package, the panoramic vista roof is now a standalone upgrade. Also, all SEL grades and higher now come with the SecuriCode keyless entry keypad.
2024 Ford Escape Hybrid Redesign
The SUV has a wide-hipped silhouette like the Mazda CX-5, thanks to its side profile’s concave solid curves. The chrome that covers the grille and the top windows of the SE and higher remains on the svelte 2024 Ford Escape. In addition to the standard 17-inch tires, automatic halogen projector headlights are also included in the standard equipment. Standard on higher trim levels are LED headlights, and fog lights are traditional on higher trim levels. When you step up to the SEL trim and above, the manual liftgate is replaced by a power liftgate. The 2024 Ford Escape is a compact SUV that fits into that market nicely because of its size. The overall dimensions are 180.5 inches long with a 106.7-inch wheelbase. It has a height of 66 inches without the rack on top. You can fit an SUV with folded side mirrors into a space only 78.7 inches wide. Despite its increased dimensions, the Model S’s starting weight is still a very light 3,298 pounds. For comparison, the heaviest plug-in hybrid weighs 3,870 pounds, while the largest gas model can weigh up to 3,566 pounds when fitted with the larger 2.0-liter engine and AWD. The vehicle has a clearance of 7.4 inches.
The new Escape gets by with an underwhelming selection of metallic and pearlescent colors for the body. The base S model is available in all the usual, no-charge paint hues. Agate Black, Iconic Silver, Carbonized Gray, Atlas Blue, and Iced Blue are just a few options. The first four have been replaced by new colors for 2024: Antimatter Blue, Bronze Fire, Desert Gold, and Velocity Blue. If you don’t go with the S model, you’ll have access to additional color options like the brand-new Flight Blue, Star White ($595), and Rapid Red ($395).
The Escape’s cabin is attractively designed and comfortable for front and back seat passengers, but it’s let down by certain cheap plastic pieces like the doors and the console’s lower section. Standard upholstery is a highly textured fabric, with convincing faux-leather or genuine leather available in the upper-end Titanium trim. Like its rival, the Chevrolet Equinox Escape has a large cargo area behind the rear seats, with enough room for up to eight pieces of luggage. When the back seats of the Escape were folded down, we could fit 21 suitcases, but only 19 in the Equinox.
The Escape Titanium is the most connected and high-tech Escape, with a 10-speaker B&O Play music system, in-dash navigation, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge display, all of which can be accessed remotely through a smartphone app. Unlike the base S model, which only has a 4.2-inch radio display and an AM/FM radio for entertainment, the SE and higher trims have an 8.0-inch touchscreen display with Ford’s newest Sync 3 infotainment interface and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. An optional head-up array can be popped up.
The base engine for the 2024 Escape is a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-three that produces 181 horsepower and can be obtained with either front or all-wheel drive. Although slightly grumbly and unrefined, the turbo three performs well, propelling our all-wheel-drive Escape SE to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds on our test track. The plug-in hybrid model achieved the same result. The attractive option is the 250-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which earned a 5.7-second 0-60 mph time in the same test. Both of the gas engines that may be found in this vehicle are linked to a smooth-shifting 8AT. Ford makes three Escape hybrids, one of which is a plug-in. The powertrains are made up of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, producing 221 horsepower. The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 Prime are two new hybrid SUVs competing with Escape.
The EPA estimates that the plug-in hybrid model’s 11.2-kWh battery pack is suitable for 37 miles of all-electric driving. We were able to drive 25 miles on the highway before the Escape switched to gasoline power during our assessment of its fuel economy. Our all-wheel-drive, turbo-three-cylinder test vehicle achieved an impressive 35 miles per gallon when cruising at 75 miles per hour. A bigger turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with all-wheel drive is supposed to provide 23 City/31 highway/26 combined mpg, but we achieved 32 mpg while driving on the highway. Those interested in the most fuel-efficient Escape might consider the plug-in hybrid version, which reaches 44 mpg in the city and 36 MPGe in our testing on the highway. The Escape’s pricing can vary widely due to its four trim levels and numerous engine/transmission combinations, but it is still competitively priced.
