2024 Ford Expedition Redesign, Release Date, Specs – The Ford Expedition is a reliable, versatile three-row vehicle ideal for families. The lineup also includes the Timberline model, which is well-equipped for off-road adventures and comes in two lengths: standard (huge) and even more-huge Max. Unlike the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Jeep Wagoneer, all similarly sized vehicles from General Motors and Stellantis, this one doesn’t have a naturally aspirated V-8 engine. On the other hand, the Expedition is propelled by Ford’s renowned twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, which in its most potent configuration, can generate 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. All 2024 Expeditions are fitted with a fast 10-speed automatic transmission, and buyers can select between rear- or all-wheel drive. The Expedition could be more fuel-efficient despite ditching the V-8. Still, it is quick: with the Stealth Performance package, it can carry its considerable bulk to 60 miles per hour in under five seconds. Further, it can pull up to 9,300 pounds and has a payload capability of over 1,750 pounds. The Ford Expedition is a practical, well-rounded choice for customers in the market for XXL SUVs because it comes standard with the newest safety and connectivity technology. However, compared to the Chevrolet, GMC, and Jeep competition, it needs to improve due to its low-quality internal materials and truck-like driving personality.
For the 2024 model year, Ford adds a new exterior color choice for the Expedition’s Platinum trim: Iconic Silver. Additionally, the fog light bezels on Special Edition models are black painted, and the interior of Timberlines has a black onyx color scheme. Finally, Timberline versions now have the standard Trail 1 Pedal Drive option. We recommend the regular-wheelbase Expedition at the Limited model level to balance luxury and practicality appropriately. Standard features like leather upholstery, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and power-operated running boards are lovely. Still, there’s also a tempting performance upgrade that should make driving the big rig more pleasant. A sportier suspension, a more powerful engine (440 hp as opposed to 375), and distinctive dark-colored exterior features, such as 22-inch wheels, are included in the Stealth Performance option. Those who require it can pay an additional $3000 for an all-wheel drive.

2024 Ford Expedition Redesign
When designing a full-size vehicle, there is a limit to how radical you can get with the body. The primary visual components designers use to establish the vehicle’s identity are the grille, headlamps, fenders, and taillights of a full-size truck or SUV. Thankfully, the updated grille, taillights, and wheels give the newest Expedition a thrilling appearance. Ford emphasizes most of its style on the front end and the alloys. The skillful integration of the grille and headlamps achieves a formidable frontal appearance. LED reflector headlamps are now standard on even the most basic models. The new Timberline models can be easily identified by their distinctive Ember Red front tow hooks, steel skid plates, Twin Spar Black grilles, and Timberline badging. The largest dimension of the wheels available is 22 inches, and the smallest size is 18 inches. On the upper trim levels, a panoramic moonroof is standard equipment.

The Explorer is 210 inches in length. When the mirrors are folded, their breadth is 83.6 inches; when extended, it’s 93.4 inches. The 4×2 and 4×4 versions have a maximum height limit of 76.6 inches. The length of the 122.5-inch wheelbase is especially noteworthy, as it’s significantly more significant than the 120.9-inch wheelbase of the Chevy Tahoe. The standard headroom is 9.8 inches, but it rises to 10.6 inches on the new Timberline.

Although the Expedition isn’t advertised as a serious off-roader, Ford provides numbers for approach, break-over, and departure angles. The given values for 4×2 models are 23.4/21.5/22.2 degrees, and 4×4 derivatives are 23.3/21.4/21.9 degrees. The new Timberlane demonstrates its supremacy with the approach, break over, and departure angles of 28.5, 21.9, and 23.7 degrees. The lightest configuration has a curb weight of 5,306 pounds, and the heaviest can measure up to 5,532 pounds.
Interior
The 2024 Ford Expedition cabin is roomy and equipped with an impressive array of standard features, even in the entry-level trim. It’s to be expected that, with such a large area to cover, there would be some defective components concealed within, but they are primarily inconspicuous and easily overlooked. Unfortunately, this issue has a greater incidence, with versions costing more than $70,000. Although things have improved with the most recent update, the presence of cheap materials in such a costly SUV still needs to be improved. The infotainment system is competent, with even the entry-level XL STX model boasting a 12-inch screen with all the usual modern connectivity functions. The third row can be folded down manually in the basic model or powered in the higher trim levels. Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 comes equipped on all models as standard and offers various helpful features for drivers.
The Expedition can seat up to eight people depending on the trim level, but the base model only accommodates five. Most models have an optional second-row captain’s chair configuration, reducing seating capacity from eight to seven for a fee. In either case, there will be enough room. Travelers in the front seats benefit from 43.9 inches of space and 42 inches of headroom. Legroom for passengers in the second seat is 41.5 inches, and the headroom is 40 inches, which is OK but not spectacular. Unique to Ford is a third-row seat that can comfortably fit an adult. For reference, the third-row legroom in the Chevrolet Tahoe is 24.8 inches. The Expedition’s third-row passengers enjoy an unprecedented 36.1 inches of space and 37.3 inches of headroom, both of which are best in class. A maximum of 40.9 inches of legroom is available in the third row if the occupants in the second row are willing to scoot forward a few seats.

The XL STX is the entry-level trim. Its features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a tilt-and-telescoping part, four 12V power outlets, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start, Co-Pilot 360, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The third-row seats in the XLT and higher trim levels power recline, and there’s a rearview mirror that automatically dims and a backward-sensing system. Power-adjustable pedals, a 10-way power driver’s bench, and a power-adjustable steering column are standard on Timberline models. The Limited trim level includes a power-operated liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and power-folding running boards. The driver and front passenger chairs are heated and ventilated, and the middle and rear rows are heated. This trim’s essential safety equipment includes frontal crash sensors, and its heated steering wheel is a bonus. The King Ranch has a leather interior tailored to the model, a panoramic moonroof, 360-degree video, and washers in the front and back. The Platinum trim level features an upgraded base engine version, active noise cancellation, inflatable back safety belts, and multi-contour front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage.

Engine
The Expedition is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, a quick-shifting 10-speed automatic gearbox, and rear- or all-wheel drive. The base model produces 380 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, but the Limited edition increases those figures to 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft. However, the Timberline and Limited with the Stealth Performance package offer an even more potent option, increasing production to 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet. The Timberline model’s 5.1-second sprint to 60 mph bested the V-8-powered Tahoe Z71 by a whopping 2.4 seconds on our test course, and the Stealth Performance model’s 4.9-second sprint was even quicker. Every single Expedition has a rear suspension utterly separate from the rest of the vehicle. While the passengers will appreciate the smooth journey, the driver must deal with clumsy handling and a shortage of feedback from the steering wheel. While the larger Expedition Max has a towing capacity of 9000 pounds, the Expedition is rated to pull up to 9300 pounds.
The fuel usage numbers from the Expedition are a fascinating study. The EPA predicts 17/23/19 mpg city, highway, and combined for the rear-wheel-drive version. Adding 4WD technology has a negligible effect on fuel economy, maintaining 16/22/18 mpg. The new Timberline 4×4 has the worst gas economy, estimated at 16/19/17 mpg. The Chevy Tahoe offers a turbodiesel engine with much better fuel economy (21/28/24 mpg) but significantly less power (than the V-8). The Expedition’s numbers look even better when compared to those of a more traditional competitor: a Toyota Sequoia with a 5.7-liter V8, 4×4, and a six-speed automatic gearbox can only achieve 13/17/14 mpg. Consider this if you’re still defending naturally aspirated engines: a 4WD Toyota Sequoia with a 26.4-gallon capacity can only travel 370 miles before refueling. 4WD expeditions with a lesser 23.2-gallon tank can travel 418 miles.

2024 Ford Expedition Release Date and Price
The XL STX is the base model and starts at around $55,000 in price. Starting at just under $60,000 for the XLT version, the price jumps significantly to just under $70,000 for the Limited. Costing just over $70,000, the new Timberline comes standard with four-wheel drive. The King Ranch marks yet another sizeable increase in cost, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of just over $78,000; the Platinum, the highest-tier trim, retails for around $80,000. Long-wheelbase Max versions of the XLT, Limited, King Ranch and Platinum can be purchased for $2,000; Ford’s advertised rates are without the $1,795 destination fee.
The price of a 2024 Ford Expedition can be raised in numerous ways. As an illustration, an increase from 4×2 to 4×4 would cost an additional $3,050. We also review the different bundles and personalization choices accessible in a later section of this review.
The 2024 Ford Excursion is scheduled to debut in the summer of 2023 in the United States.
