2024 Ford Explorer Platinum Colors, Price – The 2024 Ford Explorer competes in the midsize SUV segment against other well-known vehicles, including the Kia Telluride, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and Honda Passport. The Explorer’s pricing ranges from $36,000 (for the base model) to $57,000 (for the highest trim level). However, not all packages are created equal; two engine options are available.
The base unit is a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The Explorer can pull up to 5,300 pounds when equipped with this engine. In addition, the King Ranch and Platinum grade levels include a 3.0L Twin-Turbocharged V6 engine, which generates 400 horsepower. Both motors may be used in conjunction with a ten-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Ford Explorer Platinum Redesign
The Ford Explorer is a contemporary midsize SUV that, some would argue, is more attractive than many competitors. The basic model has LED high-and low-beams, LED taillights, a power liftgate, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The XLT has a grille with a black mesh insert, chrome bars, black roof-rack side rails, and trademark LED lighting. Except for the Platinum trim, all models come with 21-inch bright machined-face aluminum wheels with Luster Nickel-painted pockets. At the same time, the ST-Line adds rain-sensing window wipers, slick aluminum roof rails, and a special blackout treatment for the head- and taillights. Timberline logos adorn the C-pillar, and the front and back bumpers are explicitly made for this model. Other exterior details include steel skid plates front and rear, Red Ember tow hooks, a dark Carbonized Gray grille, gloss-black 18-inch alloys, and quad tailpipes. Stone Gray mesh grille inserts, chrome bodyside cladding, 20-inch alloy wheels, and King Ranch badging are some upgrades that arrive standard on the King Ranch.
For the 2024 model year, the USA-market Ford Explorer’s color selection is similarly extensive but subdued. For example, the base model is only available in five highly subtle colors: Agate Black, Iconic Silver, Carbonized Gray, Forged Green, and Atlas Blue (the latter two of which are new to this trim 2022). Stone Gray, Atlas Blue, and the new Stone Blue are no-cost additions to the XLT, while Rapid Red and the new 2022 Burgundy Velvet cost $495, and Star White costs $795. The rest of the trims have to make do with a more limited palette, but they are lucky enough to have access to Forged Green, which looks fantastic on the Explorer’s muscular lines. Some of the outgoing hues are Oxford White and Infinite Blue.
The first two rows of the Explorer’s cabin are spacious and comfy, so maybe the interior design isn’t the best, but it does the job. The typical third row may be accessed with little effort owing to a device that slides the second-row seat forwards at the push of a button. However, once back there, older children and adults will realize that the heart is shallow. The Chevrolet Traverse and the Volkswagen Atlas are two competitors with larger SUVs that provide more spacious third-row seating and higher-quality amenities. When the second-and third-row seats of the Ford were folded flat, we placed four suitcases behind the third-row seats, for a total of 31 bags.
The 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system provided as standard equipment includes Wi-Fi connectivity and smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Despite its good looks and responsiveness, the system lacks the intuitiveness we hoped for. That’s when a rotatory controller comes in handy. You’ll need to go for one of the Explorer’s priciest trims if you want to take advantage of the available 10.1-inch vertically oriented screen. Yet, every model may be equipped with a rear-seat entertainment system and voice-activated navigation. A B&O sound system with 12 speakers is standard equipment on all Explorers, excluding the entry-level model.
Ford’s Explorer series is powered by one of three available engines. The standard powertrain is an EcoBoost four-cylinder mill, displacing 2.3 liters and producing 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Everything from the primary Expedition to the XLT, Limited, and Timberline has this standard feature. A 3.0L twin-turbo V6 is standard on the King Ranch, Platinum, and ST trim levels. Since the 365-horsepower version is being phased out in 2024, all V6 turbocharged vehicles will feature the high-output 400-horsepower engine beginning with this year’s model year. The Limited and Platinum trims provide a hybrid drivetrain that combines a 3.3-liter naturally aspirated V6 with electric motors to generate 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic gearbox is coupled to all engines.
The Ford Explorer’s gas mileage varies by model, engine, and driven wheels, but it’s not terrible, especially considering the vehicle’s size, weight, and potent turbocharged engines. The best fuel economy is seen in hybrid vehicles, which get 27/28/27 mpg in RWD and 23/26/25 mpg in AWD configurations. The 2.3-liter RWD model gets an EPA-estimated 21/28/24 mpg when not assisted by electricity, while the 20/27/23 mpg achieved by the all-wheel-drive variant is disappointing. Off-roading reduces the Timberline’s efficiency to 19/23/21 mpg, which is very similar to the 18/26/21 mpg achieved by the more powerful V6 in RWD trim. After adding all-wheel drive, your mpg decreases to the 18/24/20 range.

The price difference between the Ford Explorer’s base model and the highest-end Platinum model is almost $20,000. The base price of an XLT is $36,145, while the new ST-Line model is priced at $44,745, and the top-tier Limited model goes for an eye-popping $45,495. All-Wheel Drive is an optional accessory that can be added to any four-cylinder Ford Explorers for an additional $2,000. The Timberline starts at $46,245 but comes standard with 4WD, while the 3.0L V6 RWD ST is priced at $47,245. The King Ranch and the Platinum are our most expensive options, at $53,610 and $55,740, respectively. The hybrid you desire only has two different versions. The Hybrid Limited costs $50,280, while the Platinum model can be had for $54,115 (and comes standard with 4WD).
