The Limited has slick aluminum roof rails, the ST receives a special blackout treatment on the headlamps and taillights, and the Platinum rides on a set of 21-inch bright machined-face aluminum wheels with Luster Nickel-painted pockets. The ST-Line adds equipment like rain-sensing window wipers. In addition to model-specific front and rear bumpers, steel skid plates at the front and back, Red Ember tow hooks, a dark Carbonized Gray grille, gloss-black 18-inch alloy wheels, quad tailpipes, and Timberline emblems on the C-pillar, the off-road-focused Timberline gets distinctive aesthetics. The King Ranch gets 20-inch alloy wheels, King Ranch badging, Stone Gray mesh grille inserts, and chrome bodyside cladding.
For the 2024 model year, the Ford Explorer’s color options are still varied but primarily subdued. The base model, for instance, only has access to the five incredibly muted colors of Agate Black, Iconic Silver, Carbonized Gray, Forged Green, and Atlas Blue, the latter two of which are newly accessible on this trim for 2024. You must upgrade to one of the Explorer’s priciest trims to receive the optional 10.1-inch vertically oriented screen. Fuel efficiency varies depending on the engine, trim, and drives wheels. Still, the Ford Explorer gets decent gas mileage, especially considering its size, weight, and potent turbocharged engines. The most economical versions are hybrids, which achieve top ratings of 27/28/27 mpg in RWD and 23/26/25 mpg in AWD for city/highway/combined driving. Without electric power, the 2.3-liter RWD model uses minor gasoline, returning an EPA-rated 21/28/24 mpg, while AWD reduces these numbers to 20/27/23 mpg. The Timberline is slightly less efficient with off-road components, achieving 19/23/21 mpg, which is impressively close to the more potent V6 in RWD form, which achieves 18/26/21 mpg.
