2024 Ford F-150 EV Lightning Specs, Price, Colors

Posted on August 4, 2022

2024 Ford F-150 EV Lightning Specs, Price, Colors – Ford has launched its most ambitious innovation since the Model T, the all-electric F-150 Lightning, a fast and capable pickup vehicle that produces no emissions. The Lightning has the same bare body and cabin as the standard F-150, but it is driven by electric motors and one of two battery packs instead of a gasoline-powered V-6 or V-8. According to the manufacturer, the Standard-Range battery can travel up to 230 miles on a single charge, while the Extended-Range storm can travel up to 320 miles. Several other electric pickup trucks have also debuted this year, including the GMC Hummer EV SUT and the Rivian R1T. However, neither of those trucks has the prestige of the F-150 name behind them, and the base price of America’s favorite truck, the F-150 Electric, is far lower than that of any of its competitors.

Regardless of the engine or lack thereof, the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning is an excellent pickup truck. The Lightning’s robust all-electric powertrain allows for quick acceleration, up to 320 miles of driving range on a full charge, and a substantial 10,000-pound towing capacity. It’s spacious enough for passengers and cargo, and the ride is smooth and enjoyable, even in heavy traffic or on the highway. It also comes with many handy technological extras, such as the BlueCruise hands-free driving support and a two-way charging system that can supply energy to an entire construction site (or even a house during an outage). In sum, the Lightning represents everything excellent about the regular Ford F-150 but with a minor carbon impact.

The Lightning is almost identical in size to a regular crew cab while being built differently than the gas-powered F-150. The Lightning is similar to the standard F-150 in appearance and size, sharing the same cab and 5.5-foot bed as the regular F-150. Essential distinctions include new wheels, a concealed grille, and redesigned head and taillights.

These details vary between trim levels, with the entry-level Pro looking most like a standard F-150. It is equipped with a functional plastic grille but is devoid of any modern light bar. The XLT trim level is distinguished by adding a horizontal light bar in the back, while the Lariat trim level is determined by adding an XLT-exclusive front light bar. Agate Black Metallic, Antimatter Blue Metallic, Atlas Blue Metallic, Carbonized Gray Metallic, Iced Blue Silver, Iconic Silver Metallic, Oxford White, Rapid Red Metallic Tinted, Smoked Quartz Metallic, Star White Metallic, and Stone Grey Metallic are just some of the available paint colors for purchasers to choose from.

The standard equipment for the F-150 Lariat trim is a set of 20-inch Dark Carbonized Grey wheels, while the F-150 XLT and XLT SuperCrew ride on macho 18-inch alloys. To receive those showy 22-inch wheels, you’ll need to pay for the top-tier Platinum model. The bed of each trim level is badged with blue “Lightning” lettering, and the tailgate features a cool American flag and lightning bolt design. Ford’s decision to make the Lightning seem like other cars rather than try something completely different is something we applaud. We think Ford made the right call by sticking to what works for its truck buyers, who tend to be creatures of habit.

Interior

The interior of the F-150 Lightning is mainly similar to that of the gasoline-powered F-150, except for a larger touchscreen display and a larger front trunk. The only available configuration of the F-150 Lightning is a crew cab with a short bed measuring only 5.5 feet. Although Ford will probably sell the two-door Regular and four-door SuperCab (with rear half-doors) versions of the F-150 in the future, we predict that the latter will sell better due to the spaciousness of the four-door cabin. The F-150 Lightning has a substantial front trunk (frunk) that can carry up to 400 pounds of extra goods by utilizing the space usually occupied by the F-150’s engine.

You get Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment system in the base model with a standard 12.1-inch touchscreen. The Lariat and Platinum trims upgrade to 15.0-inch screens as well. The vehicle comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Using their collaboration with Bang & Olufsen, Ford will offer two premium audio systems as upgrades: an eight-speaker system for the Lariat trim and an 18-speaker system for the Platinum trim.

Engine

Two electric motors and AWD are expected on all F-150 Lightning variants. The combined output of the motors is 452 horsepower when using the standard-range battery and 580 hp when using the extended-range battery, with a peak torque of 775 lb-ft in both cases. The performance is surprisingly quick for a vehicle of its size and weight. Our test Lightning Platinum accelerated to 60 miles per hour in under 4.0 seconds and went the quarter mile in 12.7 seconds at a speed of 107 miles per hour. In addition to being impressed by the LIGHTNING’s lightning-fast acceleration, we were pleasantly delighted to find that it retained the conventional F-150’s opulent road manners. The Lightning’s handling is marginally more pleasant thanks to its lower center of gravity.

Ford estimates a 230-mile range per charge with the base 98.0-kWh battery and 320 miles with the bigger 131.0-kWh pack. In our highway-speed range test, conducted at 75 mph, the Lightning Platinum achieved 230 miles. Ford claims the F-150 Lightning can go from 15% to 80% battery capacity in just 44 minutes when charged at public DC fast-charging stations, and buyers will be able to set their trucks at home using either a 110-or 220-volt outlet. Ford claims a fully charged F-150 Lightning can provide enough power for the average home for three days during a power outage, so the truck was designed to double as a backup generator in emergencies.

F-150 Lightning Extended-Range models can achieve up to 78 MPGe in the city and 63 MPGe on the highway, while F-150 Lightning Standard-Range models can achieve 76 MPGe in the city and 61 MPGe on the road. We only managed 54 MPGe while testing the Lightning Platinum. Visit the EPA’s website for details on the F-150 Lightning’s fuel efficiency.

2024 Ford F-150 EV Lightning Release Date and Price

The starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for a 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning is $39,974. If you compare electric vehicles like the Rivian R1T and the GMC Hummer EV, you’ll see that it’s a steal, but if you reach it to standard full-size pickup trucks, it’s a bit pricy. The mid-range XLT trim costs $52,974, while the top-of-the-line Lariat costs $67,474. The base price of a Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum model is $90,874. In the United States, the summer of 2024 is when you may expect to see the Ford F-150 Lightning in showrooms.
