2024 Ford Fusion Changes, Specs, Release Date – In today’s electric-obsessed world, every automaker places a premium on providing hybrid options in their most lucrative market segments. The third-generation Ford Fusion will have two hybrid siblings, one standard and one plug-in, despite Ford’s plans to stop producing some sedans in the United States in favor of crossovers. We’ll focus on the former because it makes fewer concessions and is the more practical mixed-use partner overall. To make 188 horsepower, the Fusion Hybrid combines a 2.0-liter EcoBoost gasoline four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. The front wheels receive most of the engine’s output via a CVT.
Ford’s midsize hybrid automobile takes on more modern and innovative models like the Honda Accord Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid, and the Kia Optima Hybrid. Does it contribute anything, or will it forever live in the dungeons of mediocrity? Aside from minor front seat modifications that Ford most likely considered unnecessary, the 2024 Ford Fusion Hybrid is unchanged. The corporation, however, has announced that it will cease production of the Fusion in 2024.
2024 Ford Fusion Redesign
The Ford Fusion looks like a midsize car, with a long front overhang, four doors, and a modest trunk. The SE and SEL rode on aluminum wheels measuring 17 inches and finished in sparkling silver, while the Titanium rode on alloy wheels measuring 18 inches and finished to the same standard. Only the SEL and above trims have distinctive LED headlights and illumination; however, all frames have LED taillights. The door handles on the SEL and Titanium trim levels are chrome-inlaid, and all versions have a single exhaust tip with body-color bumpers and door handles. The Titanium differentiates itself from the base model, which has a primary five-bar grille with a chrome mesh grille and a rear decklid spoiler.
The gas and hybrid Fusions look and feel identical, with the only discernible changes being the gas Fusion’s lower height and the hybrid’s heavier curb weight. The only distinctions between this model and the GE gasoline version are in size and mass. Without the mirrors, the two models are similar in size at 191.8 inches in length and 72.9 inches in breadth. The combination is 58 inches long, while the gasoline version is 59 inches long. The curb weight of all hybrid versions is 3,668 pounds, which is around 200 pounds more than the curb weight of the gasoline model, which is 3,472 pounds.
The Fusion’s interior can range from basic to luxurious, thanks to options like cloth or quilted leather seating. The car’s several interior trims are competitive with other vehicles in the class, but the entry-level model’s cabin may leave its occupants feeling shortchanged. Even though the gas-powered Fusion can carry as much as its competitors’ models, the hybrid and plug-in vehicles have significantly smaller trunks due to the size of their battery packs. We found that the Fusion Energi, which we tried, had a capacity of only two bags, whereas the regular Fusion had room for six. The Fusion’s infotainment features range from quaintly millennial to cutting-edge. We found Ford’s Sync 3 system, available in several grades, to be intuitive and reasonably responsive. But we have never even tested the basic version. Because it takes advantage of touch inputs and voice commands, the Sync 3 system is intuitive. It’s a significant improvement above what Ford has done before.
However, while the HEV and the PHEV employ an onboard battery pack, the HEV’s trunk space is just 12 cubic feet, while the PHEV’s is 16. The most you could fit in there would be a few suitcases, briefcases, and small shopping bags, or a few large backpacks and duffel bags. Seats in the back can be folded in a 60/40 split and kept that way, providing extra storage and seating options. The strange battery arrangement, however, still leaves a considerable step near the trunk’s rear, limiting its usefulness for stowing various items. Both front and rear passengers control access to cupholders. All doors have standard, bottle-sized side pockets, the center console has a cubby, and the passenger door has a glove box about the size of a shoebox.
The Fusion Hybrid has a 2.0-liter inline-four Atkinson cycle engine that generates 141 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to an 88-kilowatt electric motor that boosts peak power to 188 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic gearbox (CVT) is used to provide all of the ability to the front wheels, making the hybrid standard. Nine seconds is average for the class, but the Toyota Camry can reach 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds. Whether you’re starting from a stop or trying to pass someone on the highway, you’ll need to apply severe pressure to your hybrid vehicle’s accelerator pedal. The Fusion Hybrid is easy to use, particularly at slow to moderate speeds. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) seems perfectly attuned to the powerplant; it is unremarkable but as smooth as it should be. It’s best to remain off the highways at high speeds, as the power plant can’t handle the strain.
The EPA estimates that the Fusion Hybrid gets 43/41/42 mpg, which is pretty good compared to the average gasoline-powered car. The combined fuel economy of the Honda Insight and Toyota Camry hybrids is only 52 mpg, making them the hybrids’ weak link. The Fusion Hybrid’s 14-gallon fuel tank allows it a maximum range of 588 miles before refueling is required. It runs on regular gasoline, and the 1.4 kWh battery pack is automatically charged by the hybrid’s regenerative braking technology when the car slows down.
2024 Ford Fusion Hybrid’s Price and Release Date
The pricing of the Fusion Hybrid SE, the entry-level variant, begins at $28,000. The Fusion Hybrid SEL, which is in the middle of the lineup, is a good choice that can be bought for $31,630 (MSRP). The suggested retail price of the top-tier Fusion Hybrid Titanium variant is $34,595. Ford charges an extra $995 for the destination and an additional $645 for the acquisition fee. Taxes, registration, and license fees, which vary by location, are also extra. These prices aren’t the best on the market, but they’re not the worst, and specific dealers may provide additional discounts. The 2024 Ford Fusion Hybrid is scheduled to go on sale in the United States in the summer.
