2024 Ford Fusion Hybrid Engine, MPG, Interior – In today’s electric-obsessed world, hybrid vehicles are a top priority for every automaker and are only offered in the most lucrative segments. Ford has announced that the third-generation Ford Fusion will feature two hybrid siblings: a regular hybrid and a plug-in hybrid, despite the automaker’s plans to phase out manufacturing of select sedans in the United States in favor of crossovers. This piece concentrates on the former since it offers fewer concessions and is the more practical mixed-use partner. A 2.0-liter Ecoboost gasoline four-cylinder engine and an electric motor combine to provide 188 horsepower for the Fusion Hybrid. The front wheels receive the bulk of the torque from the engine, thanks to the CVT.
Ford’s midsize hybrid car goes up against newer, better-known models like the Honda Accord Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid, and Kia Optima Hybrid. Only the front seats have been tweaked for the 2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid, an update Ford most likely saw as unnecessary. However, Ford has said that all Fusion versions will be discontinued by the end of 2020. Will it contribute anything, or will it live out its days in mediocrity?

2024 Ford Fusion Hybrid Redesign
The Ford Fusion follows the conventional design of a midsize sedan by having a long front overhang, four doors, and a short trunk. Alloy wheels with a premium polish are standard on the Titanium, while the SE and SEL get aluminum wheels with a brilliant silver finish measuring 17 inches in diameter. Even though the SEL and above trims are the only ones to get the trademark LED headlights and lighting, the LED taillights are standard equipment. Each model has a single exhaust tip, body-colored bumpers, door handle, and chrome inserts for the SEL and Titanium trim. The base model has a regular five-bar grille, but the Titanium has a chrome mesh grille and a rear decklid spoiler to set it apart.
Gas and hybrid Fusions are identical in every way except for their height and curb weight. Measurements for both variants are the same at 191.8 inches in length and 72.9 inches in width (without mirrors). The gas variant is 0.2 inches taller at 59 inches, while the hybrid is 58 inches long. Its stature and weight are the sole distinctions between it and the GE gasoline version. The combined curb weight of all hybrid vehicles is 3,668 pounds, which is little more than 200 pounds more than the 3,472-pound curb weight of the gasoline model.

Interior
The Fusion’s interior may range from basic to luxurious, with options including cloth seats and quilted leather. The car’s several interior trims are competitive with what other vehicles in the class provide, but the entry-level model may leave its driver feeling shortchanged. Although the gas-powered Fusion can carry as much as its competitors’ models, the hybrid and plug-in versions have significantly smaller trunks due to the size of their battery packs. While the regular Fusion has enough for six carry-ons, the Fusion Energi we tested only had room for two. The Fusion’s available entertainment features span the gamut from quaintly neo-2000s to cutting edge. The Ford Sync 3 system, offered in various trims, is a user-friendly and generally responsive piece of technology. Because it takes advantage of touch inputs and voice commands, the Sync 3 system is intuitive. Compared to anything Ford has done before, this is a vast improvement. But we have never even tested the starter version.
While the gasoline Fusion has 16 cubic feet of trunk capacity, the HEV only has 12 due to the onboard battery pack used by both the HEV and the PHEV. It’s tight quarters, but you could fit a couple of suitcases, duffel bags, and maybe even a briefcase and a small shopping bag. There’s more room and flexibility thanks to the 60/40 split-folding rear seats. However, the trunk’s mobility is limited by a significant step at the back due to the battery’s unusual placement. Each armrest has a cupholder, and the front and rear seats each have two. The center console has a cubby about the size of a bottle, the door pockets are too small to store bottles, and the glove compartment is about the size of a water bottle.

Engine
The Fusion Hybrid’s 2.0-liter inline-four Atkinson cycle engine produces 141 horsepower and 129 pound-feet of torque alone, and the addition of the electric motor’s 88 kilowatts (kW) boosts it to 188 horsepower. This power is sent solely to the front wheels using a continuously variable automatic gearbox (CVT), the gold standard in hybrid vehicles. Acceleration from 0-60 mph takes nine seconds, which is about average for the class but is bested by the Toyota Camry’s 7.5-second time. The hybrid does need a good deal of push on the accelerator pedal to get going, whether you’re starting or trying to overtake at high speed. In general, the Fusion Hybrid’s low-to medium-speed operation is straightforward. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) seems well suited to the engine, providing a smooth ride with no noticeable interruptions. Regardless, it would help if you abstained from making long, high-speed trips on the highway, as this puts an unnecessary strain on the power plant.
Compared to the typical gasoline-powered car, the Fusion Hybrid’s projected 43/41/42 mpg gas economy seems impressive. On the other hand, a combined 52 mpg is all expected from a Honda Insight and a Toyota Camry hybrid, making them mid-range hybrids at best. The Fusion Hybrid’s 14-gallon petrol tank allows a maximum range of 588 miles before refueling. It uses ordinary unleaded fuel and features a 1.4 kWh battery pack charged by the hybrid’s regenerative braking technology.
2024 Ford Fusion Hybrid Release Date and Price
With a starting price of $28,000, the Fusion Hybrid SE is the entry-level offering in the lineup. If you’re looking for a well-equipped mid-range vehicle, look no further than the $31,630 Fusion Hybrid SEL, which sits in the middle of the lineup (MSRP). The suggested retail price of the top-tier Fusion Hybrid Titanium variant is $34,595. Ford charges an additional $995 for delivery, $645 for the acquisition fee, and taxes, registration, and license fees that vary by jurisdiction. These costs are higher than the market norm, but they are comparable to those of similar products, and further savings may be obtained through dealer-specific promotions. The 2024 Ford Fusion Hybrid is scheduled to go on sale in the United States in the summer.
