2024 Ford Maverick Lightning Models, Design, Release Date

Posted on September 3, 2022

2024 Ford Maverick Lightning Models, Design, Release Date – No other car on the market is as efficient or economical as the Ford Maverick hybrid, which has a starting cost of just over $20,000 and can drive over 600 miles on a single gas tank. Those willing to overlook its unibody chassis will find a truck capable of meeting 90% of most people’s daily needs. But if the hybrid Maverick were a revolutionary pickup, the all-electric Maverick Lightning would be something entirely else. Ford has filed a trademark for the moniker, implying that the smallest fully electric truck ever seen in the United States is on the horizon. Here is what we can anticipate.

Ford sells the Maverick in three trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat, with the XL representing the most cost-effective option. It lacks creature comforts that most customers think essential, yet it might be a decent work truck. The value-oriented model is the XLT, which features 17-inch aluminum wheels, cruise control, a power lock for the tailgate, and power exterior mirrors, among other features. We would choose the optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine due to its superior acceleration. The Tow Package must also be purchased to unlock the Maverick’s maximum towing capacity of 4,000 pounds.

2024 Ford Maverick Lightning Exterior

Our rendering of an electric Maverick provides a preview of the ultimate product. We anticipate that the exterior of the Ford Maverick Lightning will have the same basic shape as the standard Maverick but will be distinguished by special wheels, a closed grille, and a distinctive lighting signature. It should also prominently display the Lightning model designation, similar to the F-150 Lightning. There will also be a charging port. If the Ford Maverick Lightning has the same colors as the regular Maverick, we can expect colors like Velocity Blue, Area 51, and maybe even Cyber Orange.

The dimensions of the Ford Maverick Lightning are unlikely to differ significantly from those of the standard Maverick. The latter had a wheelbase of 121.1 inches and measurements of 199.7 inches in length, 83.4 inches in width (including the mirrors), and 68.6 inches in height. The standard Maverick is only available as a SuperCrew. Therefore these specifications do not vary as much as they do on the F-150, which is available in numerous body configurations. The Maverick Lightning will most likely differ in terms of curb weight. Including the EcoBoost with AWD, the heaviest current Maverick weighs 3,731 pounds. We can envision the AWD Maverick Lightning weighing 4,000 pounds.

Interior

When we entered the Maverick, we were impressed despite its modest pricing. The 2024 Ford Maverick Lightning inside should possess the same qualities that won us over. This includes a functional design, a user-friendly eight-inch touchscreen display, and great storage places that will make a family happy. As is familiar with EVs, we anticipate that the Maverick Lightning will push the limits of technology. It may have a larger touchscreen and the brand’s innovative Blue Cruise hands-free driver assistance system. Higher trims of the Ford Maverick Lightning have leather or faux leather seats that should be comfortable. The standard Maverick has enough room in the second row, but it can’t compete with larger pickups.

The cargo room should be a significant advantage of the Ford Maverick Lightning. We do not anticipate having the enormous hood of the F-150 Lightning, but it should be an excellent addition to the rear bed. Regarding the bed, the basic Maverick has a 4.5-foot bed with a volume of 33.3 cubic feet. That’s hardly much for a pickup, but the Maverick is more straightforward to maneuver than an F-150.

Engine

The Ford Maverick, Bronco Sport, and Escape all share the same unibody platform with front-wheel drive. Incorporating one or two electric motors in place of the standard Ford Maverick’s engine would need considerable modification. Still, the C2 platform is renowned for its adaptability to various wheelbases, track widths, and vehicle lengths. Presumably, it can likewise support electrification in its entirety. In contrast to the F-150 Lightning, the Maverick Lightning will most likely debut with a single electric powertrain. The Maverick prioritizes value above ultimate capabilities or quick 0-60 mph times, as evidenced by the modest 191 combined horsepower of the hybrid. The electric motor in the standard Mustang Mach-E has 266 hp, which would be more than enough for the Maverick Hybrid.

We will have to stay and see whether or not AWD is standard on the Maverick Lightning. Depending on the trim and battery, the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning can travel over 300 miles on a single charge, despite being completely different vehicles. We would be astonished if the Maverick Lightning wasn’t at least as capable as the Maverick hybrid, and its expectedly higher price would have to compensate for the Maverick hybrid’s exceptional fuel economy. Again, none of these numbers are comparable to being validated. However, 150 kW charging speeds should allow owners to obtain close to a full charge in around 45 minutes. Ford may have increased charging rates by the time the Maverick Lightning is released.

2024 Ford Maverick Lightning Release Date and Price

The release date of the 2024 Ford Maverick Lightning remains unknown. Ford CEO Jim Farley stated in mid-2021 that he could envision an electric Maverick as part of the lineup, although he did not specify when it would be released in the United States. It is impossible to predict the actual release date of the electric Maverick, but 2024 is the most likely possibility.

The 2024 Ford Maverick Lightning will likely be priced higher than the gas and hybrid variants. We know that the F-150 Lightning is approximately $9,000 more expensive than the standard F-150. However, that is a considerably larger vehicle.

If Ford can maintain the Maverick’s high-value pricing and introduce a Maverick Lightning for under $30,000, we are confident that many cautious buyers will switch to an electric vehicle. The MSRP for a Maverick Lariat equipped with an EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive is a little below $30,000. No matter what happens, the 2024 Ford Maverick Lightning price will be a big part of how well it does.
