The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the Ram ProMaster, Ford’s primary rivals, share this same flexibility and power. The Transit comes in a wide range of roof heights and wheelbases, with options for carrying cargo, people, or both. A 275-horsepower V-6 or a 310-horsepower twin-turbo V-6 provides the muscle. Both can be matched with a 10-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive, but only the turbocharged option can be used for all-wheel purposes. Do you need towing capacity for a trailer? Each variant of the 2024 Transit comes with a suite of driver aids, and each can carry up to 7500 pounds.
The Ford Transit Cargo Van is the best-performing van of its kind and comes in various configurations. Moreover, the inside is plush yet functional for long journeys. The Transit’s sole real drawback is its lousy fuel economy. The Ford E-Transit, however, should be able to solve this problem effectively. It will go up against other vans like the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, GMC Savana, and Nissan NV 200, all of which start at a lower price than the base model’s $35,270.

Both the XL and the XLT have a prominent honeycomb mesh grille in the center of their front ends, with upturned halogen headlights on either side; the only visual distinction between the two is the color of the grille surround, which is black on the XL and chrome on the XLT. The XLT comes equipped with front fog lights. Most vans have vertically expanded taillights and an overall form resembling a bread container. Everyone rides on 16-inch heavy-duty steel wheels featuring a black plastic front and rear lower fascia for maximum durability. The wheels are forged aluminum and 16 inches in diameter; they are optional.
With multiple roof heights, a longer body option, and an extended wheelbase version, the Ford Transit van can accommodate various needs and preferences. The width of all models is 83.2 inches when the mirrors are folded in and 97.4 inches when they are fully extended. All models with the shorter 129.9-inch wheelbase can be ordered with either the low or medium roof, while all models with the longer 147.6-inch wheelbase can be ordered with any of the three roof heights. The high ceiling is the only option for models with a stretched body. The length of a standard-wheelbase Transit is 219.9 inches, and its height is 82.2 inches. Size is reduced to 217.8 inches for medium-roof vehicles on the same wheelbase, while height is increased to 98.7 inches. Models with a long wheelbase and a low roof measure 237.6 inches in length and 82.4 inches in height; those with a medium roof measure 235.5 inches in length and 99.2 inches in height.
The Ford Transit can be had with a wide range of roof heights and wheelbases, letting you choose the optimal dimensions for your vehicle’s interior. There are up to 15 people who can ride in the Transit station wagon. The van’s interior is sleek and modern, taking ideas from the Ford Explorer. If you’re traveling on the highway in a Transit, you won’t hear a thing thanks to the soundproofing. The base model of the Transit has a four-speaker audio system, Bluetooth for hands-free phone and music streaming, and a multi-function display that’s four inches in size. Your customers will appreciate the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot available in all models. Display screens of up to eight inches in length, built-in navigation systems, satellite radio from Sirius XM, and smartphone connection with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are all available as extras.
The Ford Transit comes in many different configurations, each with an additional maximum cargo capacity. Behind the fourth row of the short van with the low roof, there are only 39.1 cubic feet of space, whereas the long-bodied van has 461.9 cubic feet of space. Even after adding the fifth row, this most extended variant still provides a generous 100.5 cubes. The maximum payload for the most potent van is 3,494 pounds, while the total load for regular wheelbase vehicles is 2,918. There is plenty of room for passengers’ belongings thanks to the large glovebox, roomy door pockets, and cubbyholes in the dashboard.
Ford offers the Transit with a choice between two engines. The standard 3.5-liter V-6 engine produces 275 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque when running on natural gas. It also has a 3.5-liter V-6 that can be turbocharged to produce 310 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrains are matched to a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, and drivers may select between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Up to 7,500 pounds can be towed behind a Transit. The Mercedes Sprinter’s cargo capacity is superior. In our testing, a Transit equipped with a turbocharged V-6 reached 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. This makes it a faster option than a Nissan NV we timed, which ran the same sprint in 7.5 seconds. The Transit’s suspension was made to smooth the ride, which is especially nice on long trips to and from work.
The federal government does not enforce fuel economy rules for full-size vans like the Transit. Therefore, the EPA has not certified this van. The Transit isn’t exactly the most fuel-efficient option, but that’s to be expected from a full-size van. The low-roof XL version of the Ford Transit is the most cost-effective option, with a beginning MSRP of $45,790; the XLT version, meanwhile, is available for a minimum of $48,300. The price goes up to $48,365 for a high roof and $46,920 for a medium roof. The XL and the XLT trim levels require the high roof option for the extra-long body, increasing the starting prices to $50,285 and $52,780, respectively. An additional $1,775 is needed for the base XL model if you choose the EcoBoost V6 engine. The purchase of any Ford Transit is subject to a hefty $1,695 destination fee.
