New 2024 Ford Explorer Specs, Models, Redesign – When pitted against other competitors in the midsize SUV segment, such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, the Honda Passport, and the Kia Telluride, the 2024 Ford Explorer will have its work cut out for it. The Explorer’s list price starts at $36,000 and rises to $57,000 across its seven trim levels. However, not every package is created equal; two different engines are available.
The base model comes with a 300-hp, 310-lb-ft turbocharged inline-4 from the company’s engine lineup. The Explorer’s engine can pull up to 5,300 pounds. High-end King Ranch and Platinum models use a 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 engine, good for 400 horsepower. In addition to either of the machines, a ten-speed automatic transmission is provided.
New 2024 Ford Explorer Redesign
The New 2024 Ford Explorer design hasn’t aged badly, and some even find it more attractive than other midsize SUVs. The exterior of the base model comes standard with features including automated LED headlights with high auto beams, LED tail lamps, a power liftgate, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The XLT grades up to LED headlights, black roof rails, and a grille with a black mesh insert and chrome bars. The Platinum trim includes a set of 21-inch bright machined-face aluminum wheels with Luster Nickel-painted pockets as standard. At the same time, the Limited adds slick aluminum roof rails, and the ST gets a special blackout treatment for the head- and taillights. Different front and rear bumpers, steel skid plates front and rear, Red Ember tow hooks, a dark Carbonized Gray grille, gloss-black 18-inch alloy wheels, quad tailpipes, and a Timberline logo on the C-pillar all contribute to the Timberline’s off-road-oriented appearance. The King Ranch can be upgraded on the outside with Chrome body-side cladding, Stone Gray mesh grille inserts, 20-inch alloy wheels, and King Ranch badges.
For the 2024 model year, the Ford Explorer’s color options in the United States are many but understated. Agate Black, Iconic Silver, Carbonized Gray, Forged Green, and Atlas Blue are all available on higher trim levels, but the base model is limited to just five muted tones. These two latter colors were added to the base model lineup in 2024. Free upgrades to Stone Gray and Atlas Blue are included with the XLT, while Rapid Red and the brand-new Burgundy Velvet for 2022 cost $495, and Star White adds $795. The rest of the trims have to make do with a smaller color pallet, but they can all choose Forged Green, which is a perfect complement to the Explorer’s rugged good looks. Some of the outgoing hues include Oxford White and Infinite Blue.
Interior
The New 2024 Ford Explorer cabin is valuable and pleasant, at least for the front two rows of seats, despite its somewhat uninspiring interior appearance. Usually, the second-row seat may be moved with the push of a button, making it easier to access the third-row seating position. Older children and adults, once back there, will discover the seat is too low. The third-row seats in rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse and Volkswagen Atlas are roomier and more luxurious. After folding down the rear chairs of the Ford, we could get up to 31 items, including four carry-ons, inside the vehicle.
The infotainment design features an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and it comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Though visually appealing and reasonably responsive, the system lacks the intuitiveness we’d like to see. This is where a rotatory controller comes in handy. Upgrade to one of the top-tier Explorer models to receive the vertically-oriented 10.1-inch screen. You may also get a navigation system that you can control with your voice and a DVD player for the backseat in any model. The standard Explorer comes with a B&O 12-speaker sound system, an upgrade from the base Explorer’s 6-speaker system.
Engine
Ford’s Explorer Series is powered by one of three available engines. For starters, there’s a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Every Expedition XLT, Limited, and Timberline) comes with this feature as standard equipment. The King Ranch, Platinum, and ST all feature a 3.0L twin-turbo V6. Formerly offering 365 hp and 380 lb-ft in the King Ranch and Platinum and 400 hp and 415 lb-ft in ST trim, the 365-hp version will no longer be available until 2022, at which point all V6 turbocharged vehicles will feature the high-output 400-hp engine. In the Limited and Platinum trims, a hybrid powertrain combines a 3.3-liter normally aspirated V6 with electric assistance to generate 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. There is a 10-speed automatic transmission attached to all engines.
The New 2024 Ford Explorer’s gas mileage varies by model, engine, and driven wheels, but it’s not terrible, especially considering the vehicle’s size, weight, and potent turbocharged engines. The best fuel economy is seen in hybrid versions, which achieve 27/28/27 mpg in RWD and 23/26/25 mpg in AWD configurations. The 2.3-liter RWD model gets an EPA-estimated 21/28/24 mpg without electric assistance, while the 20/27/23 mpg you’ll get with AWD is the lowest. The Timberline’s efficiency drops slightly when exposed to off-road conditions, to 19/23/21 mpg, but it’s still astonishingly close to the 18/26/21 mpg achieved by the more powerful V6 when it’s equipped with RWD—reduced to 18/24/20 mpg with AWD.
New 2024 Ford Explorer Release Date and Price
The price difference between the New 2024 Ford Explorer base model and the highest-end Platinum model is over $20,000. You may get the base model for $33,245 (not including $1,295 in taxes, registration, and destination charges). The XLT starts at $36,145, the new ST-Line at $44,745, and the Limited at a whopping $45,495. Any new Ford Explorer with four-wheel drive will cost an additional $2,000; the Timberline starts at $46,245 and comes standard with 4WD, while the 3.0-liter V6 ST with rear-wheel drive has a starting MSRP of $47,245. King Ranch is the most expensive option at $53,610, followed by Platinum at $55,740. There are just two variants available if you opt for a hybrid. The Hybrid Limited costs $50,280, while the Platinum model costs $54,115 (with 4WD as standard). The 2024 Ford Explorer is scheduled to debut in the summer of that year in the United States.
